How does Laertes serve as a foil character to Hamlet?

  1. Because he is opposite of Hamlet. Laertes is a go getter while Hamlet is indecisive.

  3. Laertes serves as a foil character to Hamlet because Hamlet has been taking so much time thinking to much about killing Claudius when as soon as Laertes comes back from Paris he is already going to kill whoever killed his father

  4. because unlike Hamlet, Laertes has a plan to kill Hamlet and he puts forth effort to make actions. and Hamlet is very indecisive and has no clue what to do about Claudius

Laertes is a great foil character for Hamlet because they are so different. Hamlet is indecisive while Laertes already has a plan on how to kill Hamlet.

  9. Laertes is a foil character to Hamlet because both of their fathers have passed away. Also, they are both generally angry that their fathers have died and they both want to seek revenge.

  10. Eric Kolakowski- Laertes serves as a foil character to hamlet because hamlet is very indecisive about killing claudius but laertes has a plan and 2 backup plans to kill hamlet and he will do it when he gets a chance unlike hamlet who might eventually kill claudius

Laertes is a man of action and sticks to his gut. Hamlet is indecisive and changes his mind from one thing to the next. Laertes also plans what hes going to do.

  14. Laertes does because he is able to act on his intentions, where as hamlet constantly suffers from indecision, which wil ultimately be his downfall and is the cause fo the play beign as long as it is, in all honestly a simple crossbow bolt could've finished this in act one

  17. Laertes is a foil character to hamlet because they are different with similar circumstances. Laertes has decided and is going ready to kill Hamlet, but Hamlet has been very indiscive on killing Claudius.

  18. Laertes is a foil character to Hamlet because he actually sets plans up and finishes them when he wants revenge. This is the opposite of what Hamlet does because he is very indecisive and doesn't follow through with his plans very well. Hamlet also over analyzes things and is full of uncertainty. One thing that they do have in common is the depression of their father's death.
